FAQs

What types of textiles do you conserve?
We conserve a wide range of textiles including tapestries, embroideries, carpets, costume, flags, banners, upholstery, archaeological textiles, and samplers. Our expertise extends to textiles from various historical periods and cultural origins.
How long does a conservation project typically take?
Project timelines vary significantly based on the size, condition, and complexity of the textile. A small sampler may take a few weeks, while a large tapestry could require several months. We provide detailed timeframe estimates after our initial assessment.
How should I store my valuable textiles?
Valuable textiles should be stored in acid-free materials, away from direct sunlight, in stable temperature and humidity conditions. Avoid plastic containers which can trap moisture, and never store textiles in attics or basements. We offer specialized collection care advice and custom storage solutions.
Do you offer on-site assessments?
Yes, for larger collections or textiles that cannot be easily transported, we offer on-site assessments throughout the UK and internationally. Our conservators can evaluate condition, provide treatment recommendations, and assist with immediate stabilization if needed.
