Treatment Received

  • Removed from the frame. The plaque was removed from the front of the flag.
  • The flag was removed from backboard.
  • Surface cleaned with variable powered museum vacuum through a mesh screen then with smoke sponge.
  • Contact humidification to ease out creasing.
  • Partially supported on the non-display side with colour matched organza coated with a dilute solution of conservation grade adhesive.
  • For display a padded mount board made with layer of flexible ferrous non-magnetic sheet.
  • The flag was secured to the ferro-flex with magnets, covered with custom-coloured Japanese tissue.
  • The plaque was encased in Melinex envelope secured in original position with magnets.
