Preventative Conservation

Pest Control & Environmental Monitoring Advice

Preventative Conservation is an equally important aspect of our work. We offer advice on preventative conservation techniques such as:

  • Pest control and monitoring.
  • Temperature and relative humidity of the environment.
  • Light sources whether external or internal.
  • Correct storage methods.

Deterioration is an inevitable ongoing process that continues throughout the life of textiles and cultural property and does not end with interventive treatment.

Preventive Conservation, if used correctly, can improve the longevity of an object. It is designed to safeguard objects through indirect action, ensuring that an object’s environment is as close to ideal as possible, whether this be advice on keeping pests at bay, the relative humidity of the environment or lighting conditions and storage.
