Conservation Mounting & Display

Flat and 3D Objects

Advice can be given on mounting and display techniques for any textile or textile related object.

We can advise on hanging systems for wall mounted textiles of any size from tapestries and carpets to large 3D sculptural objects.

Custom wooden or aluminium stretchers can be ordered and prepared with conservation grade materials.

A Mughal silk lampas displayed mounted onto a wooden stretcher. 215 × 104cm.

Treatment Received

  • The lining and braid were removed and packed for archival storage.
  • Surface cleaned using a variable powered museum suction cleaner through a mesh screen.
  • The edges were humidified to realign the fibres and reduce the fold lines.
  • The splits and areas of loss were supported on colour matched patches.
  • A custom sized wooden stretcher was sealed and fitted with conservation grade protective board.
  • A viewing window was cut in the back of the board to allow access for study on the reverse.
