Cross-Discipline Conservation Expertise

We collaborate with other conservators from different disciplines where and when needed. Projects include an advertising automaton corset, a Prussian Garde du Corps helmet along with specialist framing projects.

After Treatment

Treatment Received

  • Puppet surface cleaned with a HEPA filter vacuum followed by mechanical cleaning with polyurethane sponges.
  • Localised wet cleaning after testing to reduce tacky consistency.
  • Consolidation and stabilisation of PUR foam.
  • Stabilisation of cracks in latex foam then retouched with conservation grade acrylics.
  • Costume surface cleaned and shirt wet immersion cleaned.
  • The jacket and tie were blotter washed.

Treatment Received

  • The helmet was disassembled into individual parts.
  • All parts were surface cleaned using a variable powered museum suction cleaner.
  • Residues from previous polishes were removed from the metal elements.
  • The eagle was silver plated, areas of missing paint infilled, and the crown gold plated.
  • Leather elements were cleaned with a leather detergent and buffed with microcrystalline wax.
  • A quilted red silk was inserted into the crown as a lining and gathered at the top with a drawstring.

All Saints Church, Kingston

Saxon Kings Embroidered Panels by Jacky Puzey

The church commissioned textile artist Jacky Puzey to create seven panels for the seven Saxon kings crowned in Kingston-upon-Thames. These stunning panels are machine embroidered and beaded. On permanent display — the project will be completed April 2026.
